Web Site Redesign for Glass Illusions

Glass Illusions is a small stained glass studio specializing in intricate leaded glass window art. We've been a customer of theirs for years, and we are very pleased to have them now as a customer of ours.

Their old site buried their artwork and distracted attention from it with a stark background and flashing banner. Navigation was cumbersome, and the site flow was not intuitive.

Glass Illusions had four main goals for the redesign:

  • Get visitors to the artwork faster.
  • Remove elements that visually distract from their artwork.
  • Showcase more of their artwork on the site.
  • Simplify navigation.

We met Glass Illusions' goals by:

  • Showing a featured image on the home page and providing one-click access to the gallery from the home page.
  • Using a drop-down list in place of a space-eating vertical navigation bar, and introducing a neutral background and a static banner, allowing the artwork to take center stage.
  • Simplifying the addition of new images.
  • Consolidating each category in the gallery into a single page, creating a single catalogue page, and unifying page navigation throughout the site.

We exceeded Glass Illusions' goals by:

    • Building dynamic pages and navigation, ensuring consistent and timely updates throughout the site.
    • Introducing image swapping when a piece is available in several colors.
    • Replacing an image-based show schedule with a dynamic table, dramatically simplifying updates to the schedule and automatically displaying the next show on the home page.
    • Providing cross-references to related topics to help customers find more of what they're looking for.

And what did Glass Illusions think?

"Stan & Barb made it easy and fun to re-design our antiquated web site. We are not computer savvy and they made it possible to have the new site up and running without the headaches of a large learning curve. Our web site runs as smooth as silk because they are keen with the details."
